Gujarat has added seven new districts in August 2013. The districts came into existence vide: The Gujarat Government Gazette Notification No. GHM/2013/69 to 75 /M/PFR/102013/139/L.I dated August 13, 2013 had notified the formation of seven new districts in the State of Gujarat.
The total number of districts in Gujarat including the new districts is now 33. The creation of the new districts was a Poll promise made by Shri Narendra Modi. The original internal dead-line for the creation of the new districts was January 26. However, due to unforeseen circumstances the date was shifted to August 15th.
Reserve Bank of India has been decided to assign the lead bank responsibility of the seven new districts as detailed below:-
