Soft launch of Shri Nandan Nilekani’s election campaign

bang-thumb_Fotor

UIDAI chairman and former Infosys CEO Nandan Nilekani, in the run up to being declared the Congress candidate from the Bangalore South constituency for the Lok Sabha polls, has gone for a soft launch of his election campaign.

Till the official announcement by the GOP (Congress) about Nandan Nilekani’s candidature for Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency, the focus is on attracting voters through Nandan Nilekani’s personal blog. Social media too has a prominent role in the soft campaign.

Nilekani’s core group of experts includes close associates adept at using technology, lawyers and policy experts who are expected to work closely with the Congress strategists and local politicians.

Apart from day to day meetings with local leaders, residents and prominent persons as well as visits to popular eateries in the constituency, a crucial campaign element would be the “missed call campaign” launched a few days ago. Through this, people would be able to give ideas to develop Bangalore.

Ideas that Nilekani has been propagating on his blog over the past month include improving road density, better traffic management, improving the system of auto-rickshaws, restoring tree cover, managing the water situation, waste disposal and creating opportunities for the burgeoning youth population.

At present, Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency comprises the following 8 Legislative Assembly segments:

Constituency number Name District
166 Govindraj Nagar Bangalore Urban
167 Vijay Nagar Bangalore Urban
169 Chickpet Bangalore Urban
170 Basavanagudi Bangalore Urban
171 Padmanaba Nagar Bangalore Urban
172 B. T. M. Layout Bangalore Urban
173 Jayanagar Bangalore Urban
175 Bommanahalli Bangalore Urban

Andhra Pradesh LPG Holders – Are you ready to receive INR 4,000/- in your bank accounts?

Multiple agencies in Andhra Pradesh are working to meet the deadline of May 15, for smooth rollout of LPG subsidy via the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) route.

The minute details will be made public in the coming weeks. As this is the first major collaboration between companies, banks, integrators, government departments, bank consumers, UIDAI, and NPCI, minor glitches are expected.

As of now the broad viewpoints which are emerging are as under

The INR 4000 magic figure

Cost of 1 LPG cylinder =   Rs901.50

Subsidy amount of 1 LPG cylinder = Rs434/-

Subsidy amount for 9 LPG cylinders = 434*9 =  Rs3,906/-

Option 1:

Consumers pay the full amount of the LPG cylinder, and later on, Government credits the subsidy to the Aadhaar linked bank account.

Option 2:

Government credits the full subsidy at the beginning of the year, and consumers chip in their share to buy the LPG cylinder at the actual rate.

Option 3:

Subsidy is credited when the LPG cylinder is booked, by the LPG consumer.

Option 3 seems to be the most balanced option. Each of the above options has its own plus and minus points. Let us wait and see, what will be the decided option.

All the benefits which were transferred via the DBT scheme were simple as compared to the LPG subsidy project.

It is to be noted, that the LPG consumers must utilize their full quota of 9 subsidy cylinders in the financial year. There is no carry-over to the next financial year.

Aadhaar enrolment – No more waiting in the hot sun for enrolment @ Andhra Pradesh

During the last couple of months the awareness levels on Aadhaar enrolment in South India, were on a high level. There were serpentine queues at Aadhaar enrolment centres, especially in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Due to the high stress levels, fights too used to break out at the enrolment centre.

Government of Andhra Pradesh decided to do something about this. By harnessing the technology developed by its, ‘ IT & C Department,’, the online booking of Aadhaar slots was introduced.

This is the first of its type in the country. Unfortunately, the same is still not highlighted on the UIDAI website.

The booking can be done online or by calling at Phone number 1100.

As the advance slot booking has been introduced, no walk in residents are allowed at the enrollment centres.

The online process is simple and user friendly.   There are two different types of online registration forms for two types of enroller.

The first one is for the LPG connection holder. The first type of online registration facility is for people from 4 districts viz. East Godavari, Chittoor, Rangareddy and the state capital Hyderabad.

The second one is for all the others. Presently the second type of registration is only for people from Hyderabad district.

On successfully filling up the details and submitting them, you will be shown a confirmation message stating that “Slot is Successfully  Booked……..!”. You will also be shown Slot Number, Slot Date & Time, and the summary of the enrollment centre. You are also asked to carry your LPG BOOK or Latest LPG Bill along with you while visiting the centre.

The lists of enrolment centres in Hyderabad are us under. It might be noted that majority of the centres have been opened in March 2013, and the response has been encouraging.

Indian Health Industry interested in your Aadhaar Number

Apollo Hospitals is working on a program which plans to link patients’ health records with their Aadhaar Number.

Are you ready for it? The project is at a nascent stage, with Ms.Sangita Reddy, personally driving the project, by encouraging rallying the various industry bodies (FICCI, CII and Nasscom) towards creating a national pool of electronic health records which can be linked to the Aadhaar number.

Currently, different hospitals are working with various software firms to create their own system of electronic health records (digital documentation of patient’s medical history). This only leads to islands of automation which do not connect, said Reddy in an interview to Business Line. But when you link the records with the unique ID system (Aadhaar), it creates a nationalised resource pool with data pouring in from different locations.

Ms.Sangita Reddy has spoken to Nandan Nilekani (who is spearheading the Aadhaar project) and the members of the health ministry.

As industry stalwarts are involved in this Project, it should be live in another couple of year’s time.

In my view, this centralized database will also be accessed by Insurance companies, while processing your Health Insurance Application or Health Insurance Policy.

The Database can also be accessed by General Insurance companies, to calculate your Motor Insurance Premium. I wish I am proved wrong.
